How to Create an Order

A step-by-step guide to submitting Rx and Frame-Only orders on SpecCheck.

Click Create Order in the left sidebar to start a new order. The order form is broken into sections that unlock one at a time. If a section is locked, SpecCheck lists exactly what you need to fill in above it.

The Order Header

The top of the form shows the Production Lab, Account Number, Order Type, and Submission Type, along with three buttons:

  • Delete Draft – Discard the order.

  • Save Draft – Save your progress to finish later. Drafts never expire and can be found on the Drafts page.

  • Review & Submit – Review the full order before sending it to your lab.

Started an order with SpecCheck AI? When SpecCheck AI saves a draft Rx order, it opens the Create Order form prefilled with that draft, so you can review everything and submit it to your lab.

1. Overview

Select an Order Type

  • Rx Order – A standard prescription lens order.

  • Frame-Only – An order for a frame with no lenses.

  • Chemistrie Clip – A magnetic clip order (learn more). This option only appears if your lab offers Chemistrie Clips.

Add Patient Information

  • Patient First Name and Patient Last Name – Required.

  • Patient Email Address and Patient Phone Number – Optional, and only used for the Patient Order Tracker.

  • Last 4 of SSN – Optional.

Ship Directly To Patient

If your lab offers it, you'll see a Ship Directly To Patient option. Turn it on to enter the patient's mailing address and have your lab ship the finished order straight to them.

2. Order Configuration (Rx Orders)

  • Mounting Option – Edge & Mount, Edge & No Mount, Mount Only, or Uncuts Only. You can set a default in Settings → Rx Orders.

  • Vision Type – Single Vision or Multifocal. If your lab offers other Rx Types (such as Contract or Retail), you'll choose the Rx Type first; the Single Vision and Multifocal choices match what your lab offers for that Rx Type. When you switch Rx Types, these choices briefly show as loading while SpecCheck updates them. If they can't be loaded, the form stays on your current Rx Type and lets you know.

3. Lens Configuration

Apply a saved Lens Package or click Create a Package, then choose the Lens Style, Lens Material, and any Lens Add-Ons and Services. Only the options your lab makes available to your practice for the Order Type and Rx Type you selected are shown.

If your lab offers VMAP lenses, enter the VMAP Code when ordering one. It's required for VMAP lenses and can be up to 20 characters, including letters, numbers, and symbols.

4. Rx Entry

  • Choose Standard Pair, Balance Lens (OD or OS), or Single Lens (OD only or OS only).

  • Enter SPH, CYL, AXIS, OC Ht, and PD for each eye.

  • Click Add Prism, Add Base Curve, or Add Lens Thickness if needed.

5. Frame Configuration

Add frame details from My Frames, Frames Data, your lab's frame list (if your lab provides one) by clicking Input with Frame Lists, or manually. Fields include Frame Handling (Lenses Only – No Frame, Frame To Come, Supply With Rx), Frame Material, Manufacturer, Model, Color, Eye Size, Bridge, Temple, A/B Box, Lens ED, UPC, Pantoscopic Tilt, Frame Wrap, and Vertex. You can also Attach Trace File.

Want to add a Chemistrie Clip to this pair? Turn on Add Chemistrie Clip to bundle one with the Rx order.

6. Special Instructions

Add any notes for your lab. Please note that special instructions may delay your order, so only include what's needed.

Submit Your Order

Click Review & Submit, confirm everything looks right, and submit. Your order will wait during your Order Delay Period (5 minutes by default) before it's sent to the lab, so you still have time to make edits. Every SpecCheck order also earns you Rewards points!

Frame-Only Orders

Select Frame-Only as the order type. The form skips lens and Rx sections and goes straight from Overview to Frame Configuration and Special Instructions.
