Reference Orders vs. Inventory Orders

Learn the difference between ordering stock lenses for a specific patient and restocking your office's lens bank.

Every stock lens you add to your cart is either a Reference Order or an Inventory Order. You choose between them in the Lens Ordering Grid, right after you select a power (see How to Order Stock Lenses). Choosing the right one keeps your cart and your order history organized.

Reference Orders

Use a Reference Order when you're ordering lenses for a specific job. Enter a reference name, such as the patient's name or a job number, in the name field. The Add to Cart button stays disabled until a reference name is entered.

Your cart and order details group lenses by reference name, so it's easy to match lenses to the right patient when the shipment arrives.

Inventory Orders

Use an Inventory Order to restock your in-office lens bank. No reference name is needed. Inventory lenses are grouped together under Inventory in your cart and order details.

Can I mix both in one order?

Yes. In the Lens Ordering Grid, click Add More to start another group, and choose Reference Order or Inventory Order for each one. A single cart can include both. The totals panel shows how many inventory lenses and reference lenses you're adding, along with the total price, before you add them to your cart. See Your Shared Stock Lens Cart.
